An Irish Terrier from Uttoxeter wins place in Crufts Best in Show final

Donnie, an Irish Terrier from Uttoxeter, won the Terrier Group title at Crufts 2022 today (Friday 11 March), qualifying him for a place in the Best in Show final on Sunday.

Donnie (Turith Adonis), aged four, will return to the Resorts World Arena at the NEC in Birmingham for a place in the final at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts, with his owner and handler, John Averis.

People across the world will be watching to see which dog is crowned Best in Show on Sunday as the final is shown live on Channel 4 and streamed on the official Crufts YouTube channel.

Over 16,000 dogs are competing over the four days of the show for one of just seven places in the Crufts final and a chance to win the most celebrated title in the world of dogs.

Speaking of his win with Donnie, John, his owner, who is also a Kennel Club Assured Breeder, said: “I’m thrilled, absolutely thrilled. It was a very strong group, it could have been any of the dogs. But it was going to take a good dog to beat Donnie today!

“Irish Terriers are a very loyal breed, very playful, they’re just marvellous. It means everything to me for Donnie to win the Terrier group here. We’ll have some celebrations this evening!”

Vanessa McAlpine, Crufts Show Manager, said: “We are excited to see Donnie chosen as the Terrier Group winner today with his owner John. Reaching the sought-after Best in Show final is an achievement only possible through hard work and dedication from the pair.

“Crufts celebrates happy and healthy dogs and recognises the special and unique bond between dogs and their owners. Donnie is a wonderful dog and the relationship between him and John can be seen in and out of the ring.

“We are wishing them both luck in the final on Sunday evening.”
