Scheduling of AVNSC for Sub-Group Breeds

Following a number of queries relating to the scheduling of Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes for Sub-Group breeds, such as AVNSC Poodle or AVNSC Dachshund at General Canine Open Shows, the Kennel Club would like to clarify eligibility to compete in the Group competition.

Regulation F(1)27.b.(1). states that only the Best of Breed winners and best winning dog from the Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes in each Group or on each day, are eligible to compete in the Group.

The General Committee has confirmed that the regulation remains unchanged and that only the Best of Breed winners and best AVNSC winner are eligible for the Group competition. Therefore the best AVNSC Sub-Group winners would not be eligible to compete in their own right, but are required to compete with the other AVNSC winner to determine who will go forward for the relevant Group competition.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary said "We are aware that AVNSC Sub-Group classes are becoming increasingly popular at General Canine Society Open Shows, and consequently it has become necessary to issue this announcement to avoid confusion and to ensure that only eligible dogs compete in the Group competition.

"Therefore, if a society intends to schedule AVNSC Sub-Group classes, such as AVNSC Poodle or Dachshund, the winning dogs from these classes must compete against the Best AVNSC Utility/Hound winner to establish an overall winner to go forward to the Group competition."
