German Shepherd Dog

Distinguishing between clear, carrier and affected dogs

Clear dogs do not have any copies of the mutant gene linked to the condition and are likely to be free of the disease.

Carrier dogs have one copy of the normal gene and one copy of the mutant gene linked to the condition; they have a low chance of developing the disease.

Affected dogs have two copies of the mutant gene linked to the condition and have a high risk of developing DM.
