Kennel Club DNA Testing Services

You can order your DNA Testing kit or individual DNA test through our online shop here.

How long does it take for results to come back?
We aim to email results back to you within 35 working days from receiving your sample. However, the turnaround time is dependent on variable factors, such as the shipment time of your sample to the test location(s). As some of these factors are out of our control, the mentioned 35 working days is only an estimate, however we will keep you updated throughout the entire process.

I placed my order, but have not received my dog’s DNA testing kit yet?

If you have not receiving your DNA testing kit within 3-5 working days of placing your order, please contact our Health team so we can check where your order is.

I’ve sent my sample but have not received an update?

You should receive a confirmation email once your sample has been received. If it has been more than 5 working days since you sent your sample, please contact our Health team.

What is a DNA Profile? Is this a Breed Identification test?

A DNA profile gives you a unique genetic code for your dog. You could think of it like your dog’s very own genetic fingerprint. This allows accurate identification of your dog and can be used to confirm their parentage. Unlike other identification means, a DNA profile remains the same throughout the dog’s entire life and cannot be lost, manipulated or destroyed.

A DNA profile is not a breed assignment test and will not tell you what breed(s) your dog is thought to be.

How do you place a Parentage Verification order via the Kennel Club DNA Testing Services?

The price of our Parentage Verification service varies depending on the number of sires, and puppies you wish to test. For us to produce an accurate cost for your needs, you can complete our online form here with your litter’s details, and our team will produce a tailored quote. Alternatively, you can contact our Health team.

I would like to speak to a Breed Health Coordinator?

Breed Health Coordinators (BHC) volunteer on behalf of breed clubs and councils to enable and improve the health and welfare of their chosen breed. Their main role is to collect data on the health of their breed and to collaborate with us on any health concerns the breed may have so they can prioritise these in the Breed’s Health and Conservation Plan (BHCP). To contact your breed’s Breed Health Coordinator, please select the relevant breed and scroll down to ‘Have any questions about health in your breed?’

Who can I talk to about health issues in my breed?

If you have any concerns about a particular health condition in your dog/breed, you can speak to your vet, or you could contact your Breed Health Co-ordinator (BHC). Breed health co-ordinators are individuals working on behalf of breed clubs and councils who are advocates for the health and welfare of their chosen breed.

You can contact your BHC on the health section of your breeds entry on the Breeds A to Z.

Alternatively, if you have a general question, you can contact The Kennel Club's Health team.

My dogs BVA eye test result has not been added to the Health Test Results Finder?

The British Veterinary Association are responsible for adding the results of eye examinations directly onto our database. Please contact them directly here or see the BVA website here.

I have not received my dogs hip/elbow scores?

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) receive the x-rays films directly from your vet and their scrutineers perform the scoring. At the end of this process The Kennel Club receives a copy of the results to record on your dog’s registration records. For any updates we would recommend you contact your veterinary practice. They can contact the BVA with their submission details for more information. Alternatively, you can see the BVA website here.
