The Kennel Club at The Game Fair

29th May 2019 - 11:04 AM

The Kennel Club will once again be supporting The Game Fair which is set to take place at Hatfield House, Hertfordshire on the 26th – 28th July. The Kennel Club stand will be situated on Gundog Row which is kindly sponsored by the Kennel Club’s primary gundog sponsor Skinner’s Field & Trial. The Kennel Club will be running a display ring which will feature demonstrations from well-known gundog handlers as well as examples of other activities and disciplines which can be undertaken with your dog.

As well as the main Kennel Club stand, the Kennel Club’s Good Citizen Dog Scheme will be carrying out demonstrations advising owners of responsible dog ownership including life skills such as controlling your dog in a countryside environment and being aware of livestock management. Stephen Jenkinson, Kennel Club Access Advisor will also be on the stand providing advice on access issues for dog owners.

Owners of Kennel Club registered dogs will be able to get their pets' eyes examined by leading veterinary ophthalmologist Professor Peter Bedford. The canine eye tests are being offered as part of the British Veterinary Association/Kennel Club/International Sheepdog Society (BVA/KC/ISDS) Eye Test Scheme, and will take place at the Kennel Club stand on all three days of the show.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “We are delighted to attend The Game Fair which is an excellent day out for families and dog lovers alike, especially as dogs are welcome at the show so owners can make a real day of it.

We are pleased to be able to offer canine eye testing again this year and are very lucky to have Professor Bedford, one of the UK’s top veterinary ophthalmologists, carrying out the eye tests again, so this is a great opportunity for dog owners who may be attending The Game Fair to have their pets’ eyes tested.”

The tests will work on an appointment basis so dog owners are encouraged to book a place now to avoid disappointment. The testing will be carried out by a leading veterinary ophthalmologist and is available for any breed. Dogs being tested must have a readable microchip and the owner must present their pet's original Kennel Club registration certificate at the time of testing. Testing will be offered from 10am-4pm on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th July, and from 10am-2pm on Sunday 28th.

Those wishing to book an appointment may do so by emailing Sue Sampson on: susan.sampson@thekennelclub.org.uk stating which day they plan to attend and a preferred time. Appointments may also be made at The Game Fair itself, subject to availability, and by visiting Sue at the Kennel Club stand.

Tests are priced at the BVA/KC/ISDS basic rate of £41 per dog for the standard eye examination and £49 for glaucoma testing. This will be paid on the day, not in advance, and will require cash payment as there will be no card facilities available.
