A Toy Poodle from Lancashire wins place in Crufts Best in Show final

Waffle, a Toy Poodle from Preston, Lancashire, won the Utility Group title at Crufts 2022 today (Saturday 12 March), qualifying him for a place in the Best in Show final tomorrow evening.

Waffle (Ch Afterglow Agent Orange), age one, will return to the Resorts World Arena at the NEC in Birmingham for a place in the final at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts, with his co-owner and handler, Tom Isherwood.

People around the world will be watching to see which dog is crowned Best in Show on Sunday evening as the final is shown live on Channel 4 and streamed on the official Crufts YouTube Channel.

Over 16,000 dogs are competing over the four days for one of just seven places in the Crufts final and a chance to win the most celebrated title in the world of dogs.

Proud handler Tom said: “I’m gobsmacked, it’s totally unbelievable. Waffle is a dream!

“He’s a confident, happy, well-rounded little dog who can do anything. He loves people, he enjoys being in the showring. He can be a little terror sometimes but he’s a good dog.

“I’m so proud the judge chose us! This is what I’ve dreamed of since I was a child. Waffle is a beautiful and unusual dog, and our hard work has paid off.”

Vanessa McAlpine, Crufts Show Manager, said: “We are pleased to see Waffle chosen as the Utility Group winner today. Tom and Waffle should be extremely proud of this lifelong achievement in earning a spot in the prestigious Best in Show final.

“Crufts celebrates healthy, happy dogs and recognises the special and unique bond between dogs and their owners. Waffle demonstrates all the qualities that make a great dog and the relationship between him and Tom could be seen by all.

“It will be hard to choose a winner at the final tomorrow evening, but it will be an incredible show and we want to wish Waffle and Tom the best of luck.”
