Changes to F (show) regulations

The Kennel Club has approved the following amendments to the F (show) regulations which will come into effect on 1 January 2022. It should be noted that a number of these amendments were recommendations from The Kennel Club Shows Liaison Council.

A general canine society may apply for a licence for one two open shows per year. An application for a second open show licence will be considered if the society's two most recent open shows (at time of application) have achieved an average class entry of 4 dogs or more. For general canine society open shows in Northern Ireland, the average class entry of 3.5 dogs will apply.

NOTE: The class average of 4 dogs is reduced to 3.5 for a two year trial period 1/1/20 – 31/12/21

At shows where more than one breed is scheduled a minimum of eight classes for breeds for which Challenge Certificates are offered must be provided, which must include an Open and a Limit Class for each breed sex.

Where the Best of Breed, Best of Group, or Best in Show is a puppy, it should automatically may at the discretion of the judge be awarded Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group or Best Puppy in Show respectively.

(c) The puppy declared Best Puppy from the Any Variety Imported Breed Register classes in each group.

  1. At limited shows, Best Puppy in Show and subsequent placings must be selected from:

(a) Those puppies declared Best Puppy in Breed

(b) The puppy declared Best Puppy from the Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes

All championship, open and limited shows must schedule at least one Any Variety Not Separately Classified Class per group,

Unless a class for every breed eligible for classification is provided, the following classes must be scheduled:

  1. Championship and open shows must schedule at least one Any Variety Not Separately Classified class per group.
  2. Limited shows held on the group system must schedule at least one Any Variety Not Separately Classified class per group.
  3. Limited shows not held on the group system must schedule at least one Any Variety Not Separately Classified class.

Sweepstake classes may only be scheduled in respect of Brace, Team, Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Veteran and Breeders Classes only; entry fees may be given as prize money in such proportion as the committee of the show may determine.
