Amendment to Regulations H12, G23, I28, L10 and S21.b

The following amendment has been made in order to prevent the mating of bitches at Kennel Club activity events.

Control of Dogs

The owner exhibitor, handler or other person in charge of a dog at Kennel Club licensed events must at all times ensure that the dog is kept under proper control whilst at the licensed venue, including its environs, car and caravan parks and approaches. This Regulation applies before (at any time during the set up period at the venue), during the event and afterwards (at any time during the breakdown of the event). The mating of bitches within the precincts of the competition, as stipulated above, is forbidden.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “It has always been accepted among responsible dog owners that matings should not occur at Kennel Club activity events. The priority must always be the welfare of the bitch. It is therefore the fervent hope that this amendment to the regulations will make it abundantly clear that anyone who puts the welfare of their bitch at risk in such a way is liable to be fined if found to have breached this regulation.”
