MP for Bristol South Shows Support for Dog Friendly Places in the City

Earlier today Karin Smyth MP visited The Victoria Park pub, a dog friendly business eligible for the Kennel Club’s Be Dog Friendly Awards.

The annual awards are a competition that recognise and reward innovative businesses and outdoor spaces that welcome four-legged visitors. Karin stopped by the popular gastropub to find out why the venue is dog friendly.

Whilst at The Victoria Park, Karin Smyth met with the pub’s manager Jenny McClellan, some of the pub’s guests including canine customer Paddy and a representative from the Kennel Club to hear more about the benefits of being dog friendly.

Speaking during her visit, Karin said: “I make regular visits to businesses in my constituency to find out more about the work they do to support the communities I represent, so I was delighted to be at Bedminster’s popular Victoria Park pub during a busy Friday lunchtime. It was good to meet some of the pub’s customers, both human and canine.”

Established in late 2010, The Victoria Park is a light and airy pub that provides locally sourced food and affordable top-quality drinks within a beautiful space in the community.

Jenny McClellan, manager of The Victoria Park said: “We welcome dogs into The Victoria Park because we love dogs here and we think it’s what makes a pub a pub.”

The Be Dog Friendly campaign includes the awards and the annual Be Dog Friendly Week (starting 18th July), and aims to break down barriers for man’s best friend by encouraging more businesses and public spaces to welcome dogs.

The Be Dog Friendly Awards 2016 are held in association with dogfriendly.co.uk, the UK’s leading directory with over 32,000 entries, including dog-friendly hotels, cottages, pubs, beaches, camping and caravan sites.

Public voting for the awards opens on 1st July and runs until 30th September. The winners will be announced during a prize-giving ceremony in London during October. Any dog owners in Sheffield wishing to nominate a business or space can do so from 1st July here.
