New canine genetics resource added to the Kennel Club Academy

The Kennel Club has added a new resource on canine genetics to the Kennel Club Academy, its online educational facility. The new resource comprises a film and short assessment and is free of charge to use.

The resource will provide an overview of canine genetics for anyone with an interest in dog health. Users can expect to gain a basic understanding of how genetic mutations in dogs arise, and how this could lead to a change in visual and genetic characteristics including coat varieties or disease; what health tests are available to search for specific conditions; and why a responsible breeder should use these tests.

The video and assessment are suitable for anyone, whether they be an existing breeder or someone considering breeding in the future, or a dog owner interested in learning more about their breed’s health.

The Kennel Club Academy is an online learning resource for breeders, judges, Kennel Club Accredited Instructor scheme members. and anyone with an active interest in dogs. A range of learning resources, films and assessments are available through the Academy, sharing insight and guidance from professionals and experts in their fields. All of the presentations and videos have been developed by specialists and offer users an insight into their knowledge and experience.
