Proposal for an amendment to a Breed Standard

Requests to amend a breed standard may only be made by the Secretary of a registered breed society or council.

Before getting approval of their memberships, breed societies/councils are advised to email the team to outline the proposal(s). This will be discussed with the relevant Group representative on the Breed Standards Committee who may wish to discuss the proposed amendments ahead of submission.

Once discussed with the team and/or relevant Group representative, the breed society/council must put the proposal before their membership at a General Meeting before a request to amend a breed standard is made.

When the membership of the society/council has approved the proposed wording, a formal request may be made using the form below. The following information must be provided:

  1. Detail of the proposed new wording
  2. A commentary as to why changes to each clause are felt to be necessary
  3. Documentary evidence that the proposed changes have been passed by the membership of the society(s)/council in a General Meeting, prior notice of the proposed changes having been circulated to all members. All registered societies within a breed should have approved the proposed changes.

Please use a separate form for each clause for which amendments are being proposed.
