The Kennel Club Library

The Kennel Club Library is Europe’s biggest dog library.  Our collection includes dog books, dog magazines and newspapers, Kennel Club Stud Books and Breed Record Supplements, breed club publications, dogs show catalogues, Crufts catalogues , special collections and more. We are happy to welcome visitors and assist you with your dog research.

Doing Research

Everyone is welcome to visit the Kennel Club Library, whether you are doing serious breed research and pedigree research, working on your breed club history or want to know more about the history of dog shows and champion dogs, or are just looking for dog training books or books about puppies to help with choosing the right dog for you.   We can answer questions by email, phone or letter and we also offer an in-depth research service on a fee-paying basis.

Our Collections

Books

Our book collection holds books on every Kennel Club recognised breed and also covers a whole host of topics, such as dog training, dog breeding, dogs shows, field trials and other dog activities, dog health and veterinary care, dogs in art and even dogs in literature.  Our collection of rare dog books includes books dating back to the 17th Century.

New books in the Kennel Club Library - this list is updated on a monthly basis.

Journals and Magazines
The Kennel Club Library keeps a wide selection of dog magazines and dog newspapers, including international titles.  We hold a complete run of the Kennel Gazette and we also hold back issues of Our Dogs, Dog World and several other titles. 

The Kennel Club LibrarySpecial Collections
A features of the Kennel Club Library is our unique collection of material collected by distinguished dog breeders, focusing on a selection of well-known dog breeds. These collections include scrapbooks, notebooks, photographs, pedigrees and collections of dog ephemera. 

Stud Books and Kennel Club Breed Records Supplements
We hold a complete set of Kennel Club Stud Books and Kennel Club Breed Records Supplements.  These are essential sources for breed history and pedigree research.  We also hold original registration cards on microfilm for a number of breeds.  Contact us for more details. 

Breed Clubs                                                                        

We hold yearbooks, newsletters and other publications from most UK breed clubs and these are an invaluable resource for anyone interested in breed club history. 

The Kennel Club LibraryDog Show Catalogues
Our collection of Crufts catalogues and Championship Show catalogues dates from the late 19th Century to the present.  These are marked catalogues and include the full dog show results.   We also hold Field Trial catalogues and Working Trial catalogues. 

DVDs and Videos
Our DVD and video collection includes works on different dog breeds and on dog training and care. Footage from Crufts and other Kennel Club events can be obtained through the library. Viewing facilities are provided.
