2018 KCAI Trainer of the Year

The Kennel Club Accredited Instructors Scheme (KCAI Scheme) recognises and promotes dog training instructors, who are committed to and abide by, industry standards and codes of practice which have the welfare, care and needs of the dog at heart.

The KCAI Trainer of the Year award recognises the outstanding talents of dog training instructors, who are members of the KCAI Scheme.

2018 KCAI Trainer of the Year has launched!

We’re looking for dog training instructors who make a positive difference to the behaviour of dogs that they work with and the lives of their owners.  Has your instructor gone that extra mile to help you and your dog?  Have they helped make a positive difference to the behaviour of your dog and, in turn, your life?  Perhaps your instructor is involved in voluntary work such as dog rescue and rehoming activities or is a volunteer in their local community? If so, we want to know about them!

Please note - to qualify, the dog training instructor that you nominate must be:

  • a current member of the Kennel Club Accredited Instructors Scheme
  • one of the scheme’s Accredited Instructors or be a member working towards their accreditation
  • involved as a dog training instructor for at least the past three years.

Nominations Criteria

Before you nominate your training instructor, please consider the following criteria, which the judges will use to shortlist the finalists.

  • Positive difference: made a positive difference to the behaviour of dog(s) and the lives of their owners
  • Changed lives: in some way changed the lives of dog(s) and/or people, who in particular, may have faced struggle such as having helped rescue dogs or people who have faced  challenges
  • Helpfulness and dedication: went out of their way to help the dog(s) and their owner(s) by going 'that extra mile' such as having given time outside of their usual instructing activities to assist clients with  specific issues such as helping a dog which has problem behaviour
  • Wider community: made a positive contribution to the lives of people and dog(s) through the instructor’s training on a wider scale such as having made a positive contribution in their wider community or for charity.

  • Nominations open: 10 am, Friday 7 December 2018
  • Nominations close: 12 noon, Friday 21 December 2018
  • Shortlisting by judging panel to select up to five finalists: by Friday 25 January 2019
  • Finalists announced and public vote open by: Friday 1 February 2019
  • Public Vote closes: 4pm, Friday 15 February 2019
  • Winner announced: Crufts 2019 (7 - 10 March 2019) date to be confirmed
