2019 KCAI Trainer of the Year

The Kennel Club Accredited Instructors Scheme (KCAI Scheme) recognises and promotes dog training instructors, who have undertaken to abide by the scheme’s code of practice which has the welfare, care and needs of the dog at heart.

The KCAI Trainer of the Year award recognises the outstanding talents of dog training instructors, who are members of the KCAI Scheme.

Nominations for the finalists were based upon the following criteria:

Nominations Criteria

  • Positive difference: made a positive difference to the behaviour of dog(s) and the lives of their owners.
  • Changed lives: in some way changed the lives of dog(s) and/or people, who in particular, may have faced struggle such as having helped rescue dogs or people who have faced challenges.
  • Helpfulness and dedication: went out of their way to help the dog(s) and their owner(s) by going 'that extra mile' such as having given time outside of their usual instructing activities to assist clients with specific issues such as helping a dog which has problem behaviour.
  • Wider community: made a positive contribution to the lives of people and dog(s) through the instructor’s training on a wider scale such as having made a positive contribution in their wider community or for charity.

Winner announced: Crufts 2019

The finalists have been invited to attend a ceremony to be held at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts, on Saturday 9 March 2019, which will take place from 12:30 – 12:45 in the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme ring – Hall 3. Here their contribution to dog training will be recognised and the winner of the 2018 KCAI Trainer of the Year award will be announced. As well receiving the title of KCAI Trainer of the Year, the winner will also receive a trophy and certificate.
