Miniature Pinscher

Illustration of Miniature Pinscher

This is a miniaturised version of the Pinscher, the German breed which was used for vermin control. Originally the miniature variety was also used as a ratter but nowadays enjoys life as a family companion. The first breed club was formed in Germany in 1895 but the breed did not reach the UK until the 1950s. In the USA and the UK the breed has been developed with a high stepping hackney action which differs from the country of origin standard.

The Toy Breed Group

The Toy breeds are small companion or lap dogs. Many of the Toy breeds were bred for this capacity although some have been placed into this category simply due to their size. They should have friendly personalities and love attention. They do not need a large amount of exercise and some can be finicky eaters.
