The Kennel Club and the Animal Health Trust (AHT) have issued a joint statement today (July 28) to advise that, in the wake of this month’s news of the closure of the AHT, the scientific data and biological material including more than 40,000 DNA samples stored at the Kennel Club Genetics Centre at the AHT’s headquarters in Newmarket have been secured and moved to Cambridge University.

Kennel Club declassifies the Segugio Italiano

At its recent meeting, the Kennel Club Board noted that there had been no new registrations of the Segugio Italiano since 2007. It was therefore agreed that the breed will be declassified under Kennel Club regulation B(3)d with effect from 1 October 2020.

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, there has never been a more important time to ensure dogs and their owners are supported, with the demand for puppies having increased drastically during lockdown. As such, the new Kennel Club manifesto, ‘A Voice for Dogs’, calls upon the Welsh government to ensure the laws surrounding the welfare of dogs are robust and can be reshaped where needed in order to deliver far greater protection for dogs across the UK.
