Statement on Kennel Club events and Coronavirus (Covid-19)

14th April 2020 - 4:38 PM

During this period of uncertainty for us all, the Kennel Club is here for you and your dog.

To help you both stay happy and healthy, we have devised FAQs, advice and support on our website. And to help you to navigate the current crisis, we are working on a hub for resources, ideas, and fun to keep both you and your dogs connected while you're at home, in any situation. We will continue to update our website with the latest from the UK and devolved Governments to help guide you, and do keep an eye out for more ideas to keep you and your dogs happy and healthy at this time on our social media channels.

Update: 24 May 2020

Please regularly check the latest government advice across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and continually assess your own situation based on this information and where you are in the UK. The Kennel Club is in regular contact with Defra to keep up-to-date on developments.

From 13th May, the most recent government measures everyone in England must comply with are:

  • Continue to stay home except for a limited set of reasons but - in line with scientific advice - can take part in more outdoor activities from Wednesday 13 May
  • Stay safe when you leave home: washing your hands regularly, maintaining social distancing, and ensuring you do not gather in groups of more than two, except with members of your household or for other specific exceptions set out in law
  • People and employers should stay safe in public spaces and workplaces by following “COVID-19 secure” guidelines. This should enable more people to go back to work, where they cannot work from home.

11th May updates from the Welsh and Scottish governments:

  • Unlimited exercise is now permitted, but you must stay local. The use of a vehicle to travel to exercise is in general not permitted.

11th May updates from the Northern Ireland executive:

  • No relevant amendments made – unlimited exercise is permitted, provided that you remain within a 5km radius of your household.

Due to differences in rules or approach between the four nations of the UK, please be mindful of your local situation and refer to the relevant government website for more information: Gov.UKScottish GovernmentWelsh GovernmentNorthern Ireland Executive.

Guidance for pet owners is available from the UK Government, Welsh Government, and the Scottish Government.

Unfortunately it isn’t possible for the Kennel Club to provide guidance on every individual situation that might arise.

We continue to monitor the situation as it evolves, including the questions we receive from breeders and owners, and may amend or add to these FAQs, and the information, advice and guidance on the website accordingly.
