Learn to draw your favourite dog breeds with the Young Kennel Club's virtual drawing classes

13th July 2020 - 4:06 PM

Former YKC member and gifted artist from Somerset will be teaching young dog lovers how to draw seven popular breeds

A talented artist from Taunton, Somerset will be sharing her expertise with dog-loving youngsters across the UK, with the Young Kennel Club (YKC) running a series of dog drawing tutorials across its social channels - starting today.

Focusing on each of the seven pedigree dog groups, 26-year-old Lizzie Cadmore (nee Greenslade), a former YKC member herself, has kicked off a week of videos teaching us how to draw man’s best friend, dedicated to a different breed each day.

The drawing classes will be uploaded each day via the Young Kennel Club website (www.ykc.org.uk/content/digital-resources-and-printables/step-by-step-how-to-draw/) and are also running across the YKC Facebook group (www.facebook.com/groups/ykc.news.thekennelclubuk) and Instagram channel (www.instagram.com/youngkennelclubuk), providing a perfect social distancing activity for the upcoming summer holidays.

The first tutorial, launched on Monday 13th July, focuses on the Dalmatian, a Utility breed, which will certainly interest fans of both the breed and the Disney animation, with the full schedule running as follows:

13th July – Utility Group - Dalmatian

14th July – Toy Group – Bichon Frise

15th July – Pastoral Group – Border Collie

16th July – Hound Group – Dachshund

17th July – Gundog Group – Labrador Retriever

18th July – Working Group – Dobermann

19th July – Terrier Group – Airedale Terrier

Speaking about her virtual classes, Lizzie said: “It means a lot about to be able to share these with the Young Kennel Club members. The opportunities the YKC can provide is irreplaceable – as well as making friends for life, I’m sure I wouldn’t be where I am now without having been a part of it!

“I hope those tuning in enjoy the classes and keep practising even if they make a mistake – I’ve learnt that practice makes perfect! From a young age I was always drawing and I carried it right through to A Level before studying Animal Behaviour and Welfare at university, so both dogs and drawings have always played an important role in my life. My family will always say that dogs were my focus in every way as soon as I could walk and talk! My favourite breed to draw is the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, but all dogs are enjoyable to draw and I always try to show their individual characters.”

The YKC has been providing its dedicated members with fun games and activities to enjoy with their canine friends during lockdown across their website and social channels, including a successful online dog show last month, which saw over 1,000 entries, as well as printable quizzes, colouring pages and more.

Outside of lockdown, the organisation provides a programme of dog activities throughout the year and across the UK, including handling, agility, grooming, flyball and many more, as well as exclusive access to training sessions.
