Mr Motivator Leads Lycra And Leashes Boot Camp

As it's revealed Davina McCall is the fitness inspiration for dog owners looking to fight the flab with Fido

With dog and human obesity reaching record levels, Mr Motivator today joined overweight dogs and their owners to kick-start their weight loss mission at a boot camp-style event for the launch of the Kennel Club's Get Fit With Fido health and fitness campaign 2015.

The event took place as new research by the Kennel Club revealed that Davina McCall is the fitness inspiration for almost 50 per cent of dog owners looking to lose weight themselves as well as get their dogs in shape.

The research, carried out by the Kennel Club ahead of today's launch of its Get Fit With Fido 2015 campaign asked those who take part in the health and fitness campaign to highlight their fitness inspiration. Clare Balding, who has recently lost weight thanks to walking with her dog and David Walliams, who famously swam the Channel and the River Thames were also high up on the list of celebrity fitness inspirations.

The boot camp, which took place at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, Edmonton, London, saw overweight dogs and owners begin their fitness challenge to lose weight. The Get Fit With Fido entrants and their dogs had consultations with experts as well as taking their dogs through their paces in the specially designed dog gym and trying out activities including the UK's leading canine activity, agility.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: "As the statistics show, the growing obesity epidemic needs to be tackled, and both dogs and owners need to improve their fitness. Get Fit With Fido was set up to inspire dog owners to find new and different ways to get fit with their dog. Walking your dog or taking up dog sports like agility can really help improve fitness and today's launch showed dog owners how much fun it can be to get fit with your canine companion."

The Kennel Club's Get Fit With Fido campaign is the only campaign of its type dedicated to both dogs and their owners and was developed to tackle the growing obesity problem in humans and dogs. Within the campaign, the Slimmer of the Year competition looks for the dog and/or owner who have lost the most weight through exercising together.

As part of its Get Fit With Fido campaign, the Kennel Club has uploaded a free information pack, with ideas and information about exciting activities, exercises and walks that dog and owner can enjoy together. To find out more about the Get Fit With Fido Challenge, visit
