Summer Gundog Event Returns To Chatsworth

The Kennel Club's Gundog Working Test, sponsored by Judge's Choice, takes place again this summer from Wednesday 28th May to Sunday 1st June at the Chatsworth House Estate in Derbyshire, hosting a number of Gundog Working Tests and a variety of gundog activities for Retrievers, Spaniels and Hunt, Point and Retrieve (HPR) breeds.

The prestigious International Retriever Team Event, where invited teams from all over Europe will compete with their best dogs, will take place on Thursday and Friday.  With more international teams than ever before, this event is set to kick start a friendly but competitive atmosphere, and spectators are welcome to come along to watch the different nations compete for this year's title.

Saturday and Sunday will feature Novice and Open Gundog Working Tests for Retrievers, Spaniels and HPRs. There will also be a Young Handlers Gundog Working Test, giving the younger competitors a chance to show what they are made of.

Along with the main competitions, two separate training events will be held at Chatsworth in the days leading up to the Gundog Working Tests. There will be advanced training for Retrievers, Spaniels and HPR breeds and a Novice Handler Training Day for Retrievers and Spaniels.

Kennel Club Secretary, Caroline Kisko said: "The Gundog Working Test at Chatsworth is such an exciting event and is the highlight of the year for many of those involved in working gundogs.

"We are very much looking forward to seeing competitors old and young, from the UK and abroad, showcasing their dogs' working skills.  Teams from ten different countries are competing in the International Team event this year, including Finland for the first time, showing the truly international flavour the event now has.

"The Gundog Working Test aims to assess the working abilities of different gundog breeds and is very much in line with the Kennel Club's 'Fit for Function, Fit for Life' campaign, in terms of encouraging putting the dogs' natural instincts to good use to work well for their owner or handler.

"The Chatsworth estate is the perfect venue for such a competition, with woodland, moors, lakes and walls that can all be used in the retrieves, and we are very grateful to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire for once again kindly allowing us to hold the event there."
