Kennel Club sponsors new Special Beginners Competition at general and group championship shows

Further to the Kennel Club’s recent announcement on reforms to open shows, it has now announced its sponsorship of a Special Beginners Competition at general and group championship shows, from 2018, to enable more exhibitors to experience a group competition.
Judges Competency Framework Update

Following initial comments from the pilot breed clubs and feedback at question and answer sessions and other events where the Judges Competency Framework (JCF) has been discussed with Kennel Club staff and committee members, the JCF working party has announced that some adjustments have been made to JCF requirements.
Appointment of judges at limited and open shows and for non CC classes at championship shows from 2019

At the Judges Competency Framework (JCF) briefing sessions at the City of Birmingham Championship Show, secretaries of some clubs and societies requested further guidance on the selection of judges and contract wording for limited and open shows and for those judging non CC classes at championship shows as of 1st January 2019 when the JCF begins.

The Kennel Club would once again like to remind judges at championship and open breed club shows that a written critique for the first two placings in each class must be submitted to the weekly dog paper, Our Dogs.
Entries for Breeders’ Competition at Crufts: first 40 teams entered online will compete

Entries will open on Monday 4th December at 12 noon for the Breeders’ Competition, sponsored by Agria Pet Insurance, at Crufts 2018 which will be held on Friday 9th March. A maximum of 40 teams will compete and entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
Scottish Government refuses to ban use of electric shock collars on dogs

The Scottish Government has announced its intention to continue to allow the sale and use of electric shock training collars on dogs, despite the UK’s largest organisation dedicated to dog health and welfare, the Kennel Club, and the Scottish Kennel Club presenting overwhelming evidence supporting a total ban on the cruel training devices.

The most common disorders affecting dogs in Britain are being highlighted by the UK’s largest organisation dedicated to dog health and welfare, the Kennel Club, as it launches a new awareness week, Canine Health Week, which runs from 13th to 19th November 2017. The week will highlight the most common health issues in the overall dog population and enable owners to familiarise themselves with these in order to establish and meet the healthcare needs of their dogs.
