Kennel Club Sets Date for Hunt, Point, Retrieve Championship

The Kennel Club has announced that this year’s Hunt, Point, Retrieve (HPR) Championship will take place at the Elveden Estate, Thetford, Norfolk, on 14th - 15th November.

The championship, sponsored by Skinner's pet foods, will test the quartering, hunting and retrieving skills of HPR breeds in a competitive setting, and handlers will be expected to demonstrate the working skills of their dogs at championship level.

Last year's competition saw FT Ch Kerride Henry, a four-year-old Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla from Lancashire, named as the winner.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “We are looking forward to seeing the high standards of gundog work showcased by the HPR breeds again this year for the sixteenth Hunt, Point and Retrieve Championship.

“The championship is a great opportunity for the HPR community to showcase the working ability of their dogs and to show off the hard work they have put in to consistently raise the standard of their dogs’ work.

“It’s impressive to see these dogs putting their natural instincts to good use as they work for their handlers, and we are looking forward to receiving entries for the competition.”

To qualify for the event, dogs need to have gained a 1st or 2nd place in an open Hunt, Point and Retrieve field trial, and the qualifying award must have been gained in the two preceding seasons, which for the purposes of the HPR Championship means awards gained since 15th November 2015.

The HPR Championship will be judged by Mrs R Dockwray-Howard and Mrs J Robertson.  Spectators are welcome to come along and watch the competition.
