Alfie from Nottinghamshire Wins Kennel Club Novice Spaniel Gundog Working Test at Chatsworth House

A year-old English Springer Spaniel named Alfie from Newark in Nottinghamshire has won the Kennel Club Novice Spaniel Gundog Working Test, held at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire by the gracious permission of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The judges were Malcolm Taylor and Steve Adams. The event is kindly sponsored by Eukanuba.

Alfie, owned and handled by James Jeffrey, was awarded first place at the test which saw talented Spaniels tested on hunting, quartering and retrieving to hand.

James said: “There was excellent ground here today, great helpers and a very well organised event. Thank you to everyone who helped on the day to make it a success”.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “English Springer Spaniels are great workers and today was no exception, with the breed dominating proceedings. Well done to James and Alfie on their success. Alfie is still quite a young dog so we are sure he has a bright future ahead of him”.

The results for the day were as follows:

  • 1st Seabiscuit Boy, English Springer Spaniel owned and handled by James Jeffrey
  • 2nd Windmillwood Petrel, English Springer Spaniel owned and handled by Jason Lee
  • 3rd Kirstzo Guss, English Springer Spaniel owned by Jason Yates and  handled by Eric Elwick
  • 4th Craigscourt Carrera, English Springer Spaniel owned and handled by Richard Coles
