DNA tests allow you to better understand your dog’s genetics. If you're thinking of breeding from your dog, then knowing more about their DNA can help you take steps to reduce the risk of breeding puppies affected by the most significant inherited conditions.
Our CombiBreed health test packages offer you a simple and cost-effective way to carry out a number of priority DNA tests all from one swab, saving you time, effort and money.
CombiBreed offers all the significant and relevant DNA tests, helping to show your puppy buyers that you prioritise the health and welfare of the puppies you breed.
Doing the right thing and testing your dog for all your breed’s recommended DNA tests can often involve arranging several different individual tests from a range of laboratories, making it time consuming, expensive and sometimes confusing.
By using only one sample of your dog’s DNA to simultaneously check for a number of different genetic mutations, we can lower the cost of testing, making it quicker, cheaper and simpler than organising individual tests from several different laboratories.
Regardless of your breed, the CombiBreed health test package costs £135 (incl VAT).
Kennel Club Assured Breeders are given a 10% discount, with the package costing £121.50 (incl VAT). Your dog’s results will be emailed to you and a certificate will be emailed soon after.
The results of the tests will be sent to you via email within 34 calendar days after receipt of the DNA sample by Weatherbys.
Currently health test packages are available for the following breeds:
Find out more about which tests are included as part of each breed’s health test package.
Currently, health test packages are only available for a limited number of breeds. These were selected because they are popular and have several different DNA tests. We selected these breeds to encourage breeders to health screen their dogs and therefore maximise the number of healthy puppies bred from DNA tested parents. In time, it is likely that more breeds will be added to CombiBreed.
To take a sample of DNA from your dog we will send you a small brush, known as a mouth swab, which you can use to gently rub the inside of your dog’s cheek, causing loose cheek cells to stick to the bristles. This is completely painless and non-invasive. The swab is then returned to the laboratory, where the cheek cells are broken open and the DNA is analysed.
*Some health test packages may include tests that may not be a priority in the breed, but we are collecting data for research purposes to monitor conditions that are "under surveillance", results will be given to you, but may not be published on Mate Select.
