"Hypoallergenic" dogs and dogs that don't shed

If you have allergies and are hoping to buy a dog that doesn't shed its fur, or one that sheds less, then one of the breeds listed below may suitable for you. No dog can ever truly be hypoallergenic, but some dog breeds may have a non-shedding coat that is less likely to cause a reaction.

Have allergies? Speak to a medical professional

If you are asthmatic or have an allergy and are thinking of getting a dog you should speak to your doctor first. In addition to giving you medical advice, they may be able to advise you on things to consider when finding out which pet is best suited to you. You may also wish to look at the Animals, Pets and Asthma page on the Asthma UK website.
