What are your favourite characteristics in your dog?

Friendly, Happy, smiley and desperate to please. Always overjoyed to see me whenever and whatever time I return home.

What makes your dog such a great animal?

Rocky is really responsive and sympathetic to the people around him. He is exceptionally well trained (by my husband) and is a wonderful pet to my daughters as well as being a masterful retriever in the field with my husband.

What dog welfare issues do you think need tackling?

A propensity to want to eat everything and lick the dishwasher!

What role should training and socialisation play in a dog’s life and what is your top training tip?

Dogs are pack animals, they need to be socialised and trained to learn their position in your pack (family). Once they have boundaries they are fantastic to be around and recognise their responsibilities as well as their limitations.

My top training tip is to always feed half of your dog’s food to them as treats for good behaviour throughout the day, so you don’t over feed them during training.

Why should your dog be crowned Westminster Dog of the Year 2017?

Rocky has not only fulfilled all my expectations as a pet and companion but since the day he arrived, he has completed our family. He has comforted my daughters throughout various break-ups and been away working with my husband in Wales and Scotland, keeping an eye on him. Also he has introduced my husband to a skill he didn’t know he processed- namely dog whisperer. Together they have entered working dog competitions as well as taking part in field sports during the season and are now pretty inseparable.
