What are your favourite characteristics in your dog?

Copper is friendly, lively and affectionate and she has beautifully soft floppy ears.

What dog welfare issues do you think need tackling?

The high cost of access to veterinary services: solved by a national veterinary service free at the point of need.

Are there any changes you’d like to see to legislation governing the use and sale of fireworks?

Firework sale and use should be limited to the week preceding 5th November and restricted to New Year, Chinese New Year and Diwali.

How do you think both dog owners and non-dog owners can reduce the impact that fireworks have on dog welfare?

Attend organised firework displays only. We leave the radio on to soothe Copper.

Why should your dog be crowned Holyrood Dog of the Year 2019?

My wife, Karen, and her sister decided to share the care of Cooper between our two homes, following their mother’s death in late 2017.

So the start of 2018 was a tough year for Copper adjusting to living in the new homes. Then the end of the year, she broke her leg in two places and was fitted with a plate.

Thankfully, she is now back to full fitness and back to her old energetic self.
