Ms Sharon Edwards

Sharon Edwards is a City of London Animal Health Inspector. With a family background in dairy farming and both event and racehorses, Sharon joined the City of London's Heathrow Animal Reception Centre in 1987, specialising in the import of both domestic and exotic species. 

In 2004, after qualifying in Animal Health and Legal Practices through the Trading Standards Institute, she transferred to the City of London's Animal Health & Welfare Services Team contracting both legal and husbandry Animal Health expertise to Local Authorities.  The responsibilities are wide ranging from licence inspections of a range of premises including animal boarding establishments, zoos, pet shops and dog breeding establishments to enforcing a vast range of Animal Health legislation.  

Since January 2012 Sharon's team has seen an approximate rise of 400% in the reporting of, and investigation of, illegally imported dogs into Greater London; these are mainly puppies from Eastern Europe.  Her team continues to try and raise public awareness of the issues through training events and the media and Sharon is a member of PAAG (the Pet Advertising Advisory Group) promoting responsible pet advertising.  Sharon has owned many dogs and at present her husband and two teenage children share their home with their rescue lurcher Millie and their two rescue cats.
