Did you know that you can apply to vary the ownership of your Kennel Name?

This will enable the reputation you have developed to continue and allow other partners to use your Kennel Name on dogs in their ownership.

If you have considered to vary the ownership of your Kennel Name you would need to complete a Form 11.

Ways you can vary the ownership of a Kennel Name

Section 3 - (Declaration to be signed by the Current Kennel Name Holder) on the application relates to how the interest will be set up. There are two statements so it is important to sign the correct one to avoid the wrong variation being granted, or the original one being cancelled.

Examples on how a Kennel Name may be varied and the correct declarations to be signed:

  • Current Kennel Name Holder (Original Interest) - Mr Smith
  • Applicant (New Interest) - Mr Brown

TRANSFER Kennel Name Ownership

When a Kennel Name is transferred the "Original" ownership becomes inactive and the new interest is taken out i.e.

Mr Smith signs to say he wishes to relinquish his Kennel Name to Mr Brown.
Mr Brown becomes the new interest in the Kennel Name.

Mr Smith signs Declaration Statement B
Mr Brown completes section 4 (Applicant Details) & section 5 (Declaration by the applicant)

SEPARATE INTEREST in Kennel Name Ownership

When a Separate interest is taken out the original interest remains the same and the new interest becomes an additional interest in the Kennel Name i.e.

Mr Smith signs to say he wishes to retain his interest -
Mr Brown becomes the "Separate" interest in the Kennel Name.

Mr Smith signs Declaration Statement A
Mr Brown completes section 4 (Applicant Details) & section 5 (Declaration by the applicant)

JOINT INTEREST in Kennel Name Ownership

When a Joint interest is taken out the original interest remains the same and the new interest becomes an additional interest in the Kennel Name in the original owners name plus another party i.e.

Mr Smith signs to say he wishes to retain his interest but has also filled in the form as a new applicant with Mr Brown -

Mr Smith & Mr Brown become a "Joint" interest in the Kennel Name

Mr Smith signs Declaration Statement A
Mr Smith & Mr Brown completes section 4 (Applicant Details) & section 5 (Declaration by the applicant)

A Kennel Name can only be used in the naming of dogs where the ownership of the Kennel Name and registered ownership of the dog are identical.

Annual Maintenance

For each interest in a Kennel Name a new Annual Maintenance fee would be due annually. If adding a new interest, or transferring, a new payment arrangement must be set up.
Once the Kennel Name has been granted in the new interest a Kennel Name certificate will be issued to the applicant, the details will also be published in the Kennel Club Journal.

Don't Forget..

The Kennel Club also offers a Kennel Name Bequest Service, so you can bequeath your Kennel Name in the event of death.
