Does my dog need any other special requirements such as health tests in order to be registered with you?

Kennel Club Assured Breeders must health test as appropriate for their breed but it is not currently a requirement for other breeders. For this reason we would recommend you always go to a Kennel Club Assured Breeder.

Details for health tests for each breed can be found in the Breed Information Centre.

How do I know if my dog is registered on the Breed Register?

It is the breeder's responsibility to apply and register / name the puppies in the litter.

Individual Registration Information Documents are issued to the breeder, normally within 14 days of the application being submitted.

When you purchase a dog which is advertised as Kennel Club registered, you should receive the Registration Information Document from the breeder, complete with the breeder's signature and dated.

The Registration Information Document is A3 and will have the Kennel Club logo including the dog's details that are registered with the Kennel Club.

If your document does not have the Kennel Club logo then the dog is not Kennel Club registered.

It is then your responsibility to change the ownership of the dog from the breeder's ownership to your ownership.

The breeder has not provided the dog's Registration Information Document, do I need this?

It is important to obtain the dog's Registration Information Document before you bring the dog home. If the document is not available, ensure that you receive an undertaking in writing that this will be sent to you when received from the Kennel Club.

Once the breeder has provided your Registration Information Document you can apply to change the registered ownership of your dog.

My dog has paperwork from Dog Lovers, Kennel Registration or another registry. Can I register my dog with the Kennel Club?

Yes, you can register your dog with the Kennel Club on either the Activity or Companion Dog Club registers. We would be unable to register any pedigree of your dog.

If you wish your dog to be on the Breed register, you will need to discuss this with the breeder as they are the only person who can apply for this, and both parents would need to be registered on the Breed Register.

My dog has no registration papers but is a pedigree dog. Can I register my dog with the Kennel Club?

Yes, you can register your dog with the Kennel Club on either the Activity or Companion Dog registers. We would be unable to register any pedigree of your dog.
