The Kennel Club has announced two new dates for tours of its London building; Wednesday 26th April and Wednesday 19th July.
One of the key stops on the tour is the Kennel Club Art Gallery, where the current exhibition, Magnificent Molossers, showcases a wide selection of art mediums focusing on several of the Molosser breeds. Exhibits include oil paintings, engravings and bronze, resin and porcelain models, alongside other types of ephemera including dog collars and even a chess set complete with Bullmastiff figures.
Other highlights of the Gallery include the unique opportunity to see the world famous Crufts Best in Show trophy, the Keddell Memorial Trophy, up close; a rare chance to view Sir Edwin Landseer’s ‘A Distinguished Member of the Humane Society’, currently on loan from the Tate; an extensive display of Crufts trophies, some of which have never been exhibited before; and prestigious pieces of art such as ‘Greyhounds in a Landscape’ by Maud Earl, and famed painter John Emms’ portrait of early Clumber Spaniels.
Guests visiting on the April tour date will also have the opportunity to view a selection of miniature portrait work from internationally acclaimed photographer Bettina von Zwehl, which will be on display at the Kennel Club until Friday 28th April.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn more about the history of the Kennel Club, and the organisation’s efforts to improve the health and welfare of dogs in the UK. During the tour staff will explain how the Kennel Club is an unparalleled source of information on dog welfare, training and breeding.
Refreshments will be served upon arrival and for a small charge, guests can prolong their visit with a lunch prepared by the Kennel Club catering team. Each tour begins at 11am. Places are limited so visitors wishing to join a tour must book in advance via phone or email. A small fee of £5 per person applies.
