Dog Activity Training Week for Young Dog Lovers in Scotland

Young dog owners in Scotland are invited to boost their canine training skills and try out different activities by attending a fun training weekend organised by the Young Kennel Club (YKC) and the Scottish Kennel Club (SKC).

The brand new training weekend will take place at Errol Airfield, Perth from Friday 28th July to Sunday 30th July.

The event is open to all YKC members and SKC Junior members aged 6-24 years, who will be able to experience a range of activities such as agility, heelwork to music, obedience and handling.

Saturday and Sunday will include training sessions in the daytime with social activities in the evenings. The site also offers camping to those who wish to stay for the whole weekend.

Gerald King, YKC Chairman, said: “The Young Kennel Club and Scottish Kennel Club summer training weekend is the perfect event for young members and their dogs who want to learn new skills and try out a range of different canine activities.

“Life-long friendships are often formed during these training weekends and it gives our YKC members the chance to meet like-minded Scottish Kennel Club Juniors as well as the opportunity to strengthen the bond between owner and dog. We hope everyone who attends enjoys the weekend thoroughly.”

The Young Kennel Club is the Kennel Club’s group for young dog lovers aged from 6-24, and members can take part in dedicated events and activities which educate young people in the care and training of dogs in a fun and friendly environment.

To find out more about the YKC and SKC summer training weekend, please contact the YKC team. The weekend is open for all Young Kennel Club and Scottish Kennel Club Junior members, with the training weekend costing £70 and camping priced at an additional £30. Families with more than one YKC member who will be camping together will only have to pay the £30 once.

Members under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who will not be charged to attend. Any breed of dog, providing it is fit and healthy and at least 6 months old, can take part. However for agility, flyball and heelwork to music training, dogs must be over 12 months for safety reasons.
