Dyfed Dog Wins Kennel Club Cocker Spaniel Championship

Byrbwll Dotty, a three-year-old bitch known as Dot, and her owner, Dai Ormond from Whitland, Dyfed, have won the prestigious Kennel Club Cocker Spaniel Championship for 2017.

The competition, sponsored by Eukanuba, was held at the Abbeystead Estate, Lancashire, by the gracious permission of the Duke of Westminster, and saw a total of 42 dogs competing, demonstrating the increasing popularity of the working Cocker Spaniel in competitive gundog sports.

Dai said: “I have been running dogs since 1981 and have previously had a second place. I am absolutely over the moon to have won the Cocker Spaniel Championship for the first time!’’

The judges at the competition were Jeremy Organ, Ben Randall, Steve Wanstall and Graham West who selected the following winners:

  • 1st – Byrbwll Dotty, owned and handled by Dai Ormond.
  • 2nd – Breckmarsh Brook, owned and handled by Lee Cooper.
  • 3rd – FT Ch Dakotagun Arwin, owned by Claire and Jaseon Atkinson and handled by Jaseon Atkinson.
  • 4th and Gun’s Choice – Spiriteddawn Mystic, owned and handled by Andy Waterhouse 

Diplomas of Merit were awarded to:

Plentiful game, fantastic shooting by the guns and a huge amount of work by the Estate went into making the Championship a success.”
