The 2017 cover star of the Kennel Club Breed Rescue calendar, Harry the Irish Setter, visited London’s biggest dog event, Eukanuba Discover Dogs at ExCeL London last weekend to help promote the calendar which is raising much-needed funds for canine rescue through the Kennel Club Charitable Trust.

Each year the Kennel Club releases a calendar featuring dogs that have been rehomed by a Kennel Club Breed Rescue organisation. The calendar is a great fundraising opportunity for Kennel Club Breed Rescue and raises awareness and support for breed rescue organisations across the country.

Harry had been taken into the Irish Setter Breeders Club rescue at just 12 weeks old, with a condition that meant he had difficulty swallowing food, and the rescue nursed him back to health before finding him a loving forever home.

Harry’s new owners, Sarah and Simon Docherty from Buckley, North Wales, stumbled upon his story when they saw that friends of the ISBC were raising funds in order to rescue Harry. The couple had previously owned another Irish Setter who had the same condition as Harry, as well as cancer, but who sadly passed away in April this year. The pair weren’t looking for a new dog but as soon as they read about Harry on Facebook they quickly changed their minds.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “Harry and the other calendar stars did a fantastic job at Eukanuba Discover Dogs, showcasing the remarkable rehoming stories as well as encouraging the public to learn about rescuing a dog and the important work carried out by breed rescues.”

The calendar costs £5 and can be purchased online via the Kennel Club Shop.
