Winners Crowned In The 2016 Companion Dog Club Competition

The ultimate competition for companion dogs culminated in an exciting final at London’s biggest dog event, Eukanuba Discover Dogs at ExCeL London on 22nd and 23rd October, where the Companion Dog Club competition took place.

The judge for the purebred classes was Stuart Band and for the novelty classes, Mark Walden and Marina Scott had the difficult decision of choosing the winners. The judges took into account the importance of dog training and responsible dog ownership and judged the entrants on good character, health and temperament.

The competition saw 95 dogs of all ages, shapes and sizes step into the ring to compete in a series of fun categories.

The full list of winners was:

Novelty Classes

  • Prettiest Bitch – Alaska, a Siberian Husky owned by Nicola Love from Maidstone, Kent
  • Most Handsome Dog – Oscar, a Labrador/Standard Poodle cross owned by Derek Carter from Beccles, Suffolk
  • Best Rescue – Bob, a Corgi cross owned by Karen Baudrey from East Tilbury, Essex
  • Dog The Judge Would Most Like To Take Home – Bella, a Border Collie owned by Janette West from Peacehaven, East Sussex

Purebred Classes - open to any breed of purebred dog

  • Any Variety Sporting and Non-Sporting Puppy 6-12 months – Herbie, a Pug owned by Jo Lomax from Crawley, West Sussex
  • Any Variety Sporting Open – Jet, a Greyhound owned by Pia Van Praagh from Upminster, Essex
  • Any Variety Non-Sporting Open – Brax, a White Swiss Shepherd owned by Marilyn Dennis from Camberley, Surrey
  • Any Variety Sporting and Non-Sporting Veteran 7-12 years – Frank, a Bull Terrier owned by Rachel Mailley from South Ockendon, Essex 

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “We look forward to the Companion Dog Club competition every year and it’s a highlight of Eukanuba Discover Dogs. It’s always lovely to see the amazing bond between dog and owner, and every year we come across an incredible mix of canines.

“Congratulations to all the winners and their owners, they are shining examples to all dogs and owners in the UK.”

The competition is held in support of the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, which looks after the health and welfare of all dogs, with a class entry fee of £2 per class. The Kennel Club Charitable Trust funds a wide variety of work, ranging from supporting research into canine diseases, grants to dog welfare organisations and the promotion of support dogs, all of which give dogs a healthier and happier life.
