Kennel Club Boosts Academy Content With New Breed Films

05 July 2016    10:00

The Kennel Club is boosting its KC Academy content with three new breed films, the first of many to be added to the leading online resource for those looking to improve their knowledge of the canine world.

The first of the new breed-specific films to be launched is the English Setter, which is now live, and this will be followed by the Pekingese on 21st July and the Bull Terrier on 11th August.

All the presentations and films have been developed by experts in their breeds and offer users an insight into their knowledge and experience. The new learning resources provide a thorough introduction to the breeds, the important points of the dog and its movement in the show ring.

Giving their personal observations of the breed for the English Setter is breed expert, Steve Collier; the Pekingese by Liz Stannard, and the Bull Terrier by Bill Lambert.

Led by the Kennel Club’s Training Board, the KC Academy is an online learning resource for breeders, judges and KCAI scheme members. It aims to provide consistent and high quality standards of education and training in every area of Kennel Club activity.

Gerald King, Chairman of the Kennel Club Training Board said: "We are happy to announce another three breed films to the Kennel Club Academy, with more to follow in the coming months. These films are a valuable resource for those within the breed, judges and those working towards becoming a judge as well as dog breeders.

“The Training Board is keen to develop this area into an online library of films with multiple films for a breed, so breed clubs are invited to give serious consideration to developing their own film. The Kennel Club’s Educational Trust has agreed to contribute funds to help those clubs and councils which wish to take a proactive approach to their judge’s education and develop their own breed-specific film to be featured on the Academy.  The Training Board’s view is that the more information which can be made available about a particular breed, the better to provide a rounded education for a breed.”

Those looking to view the films can do so for £26 a year, with access to all courses on the KC Academy. The learning resources available to judges include many of the mandatory elements required in the Kennel Club’s established judges training programme. These are all essential pre-course learning before attending the official seminars delivered by Accredited Trainers.
