The Final Six Crossbreed Dogs Get Ready For Scruffts At Crufts

27 October 2015    10:00

Scruffts 2015 attracted over 2,000 crossbreeds and their owners, but just six have made it all the way, winning a place in the final at Crufts for the Scruffts Family Crossbreed Dog of the Year final.

The semi-finals took place at Eukanuba Discover Dogs at ExCeL London over the weekend of October 17th and 18th, with talented dogs and passionate owners coming together to compete for a place at the world's greatest dog show.

Judges on the day had a touch decision to choose just one winner for each of the six heats. The winners were:

  • Most Handsome Dog: Hugo, owned by Karen Kalaway from Market Harborough
  • Good Citizen Dog Scheme: Fergus, owned by Kathryn Hoffman from Burgh Le Marsh
  • Golden Oldie: Icey, owned by Val Philips from Croydon
  • Prettiest Bitch: Beau, owned by Diane Taylor from Ramsgate
  • Child's Best Friend: Roxy, owned by Olivia Lawrence from Chesterfield
  • Best Rescue: Bella, owned by Helen Lewis from Guildford

The six dogs are now getting ready to compete at Crufts 2016, which will be held at the NEC Birmingham next March, where guest judge and famous author and dog lover Jilly Cooper will be making the difficult decision of choosing the Scruffts Family Crossbreed Dog of the Year.

More than 2,000 dogs have taken part in the Scruffts heats this year, raising more than £4,000 for the Kennel Club Charitable Trust and each event's chosen charity. None of the dogs left empty handed, as all competitors received James Wellbeloved treats and a copy of Your Dog magazine, the Scruffts media partner.

Throughout the year, heats of the popular Scruffts contest, which is supported by pet food makers James Wellbeloved, have taken place at events around the country in search of crossbreeds with that extra special something.

James Wellbeloved marketing manager Anne-Laure Jaouën said:  "We have all fallen in love with the six finalists - what amazing stories they all have. They are already winners and we look forward to finding out which one takes the overall title."

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary said: "This year's six finalists are beautiful, inside and out, and we are honoured to have them join us at Crufts. We hope they will enjoy every moment at the world's biggest dog show. I am sure it will be a moment they will all remember forever."

Scruffts is run in support of the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, which has donated over £9m worth of grants to benefit the canine world since its inception in 1987. Its mission is to 'make a difference for dogs' through charitable grants and helping to fund research into canine health problems.
