Championship For Hunt, Point And Retrieve Breeds To Return To Swinton Estate

21 April 2015    10:00

The Kennel Club's Hunt, Point, Retrieve (HPR) Championship, sponsored by Skinner's pet foods, will be returning to the Swinton Park estate, North Yorkshire, on 13 - 14 November 2015.

The championship, which is designed specifically to test the competing dogs' quartering, hunting and retrieving ability at a championship level, will offer the chance for owners of HPR breeds to demonstrate the working skills of their dogs in a competitive setting.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: "The Hunt, Point, Retrieve Championship is great chance for the HPR community to showcase the working ability of their dogs and to show off the hard work they have put in to continuously and consistently raise the standard of their dogs' work.

"The HPR Championship is the pinnacle in the working gundog calendar for the breeds involved and we are very much looking forward to seeing the high standards showcased by the HPR breeds again this year."

The winners of last year's HPR Championship were three year old German Longhaired Pointer, Wamilanghaar Tash, also known as Tashi, from Andover in Hampshire and his owner Howard Kirby.

To qualify to compete in the competition, dogs must have gained a first or second place in an Open Hunt, Point and Retrieve Field Trial, and the qualifying award must have been gained in the two preceding seasons, which for the purposes of the HPR Championship means awards gained since 13 November 2013.  It should be noted that dogs which hold the title of Field Trial Champion do not automatically qualify for entry and will still need to meet the qualification criteria.

The judges at this year's competition will be Sheila Kuban and Phil Pearson.

Further information on the HPR Championship will be released nearer the time and will be available at www.thekennelclub.org.uk/HPRChampionship.
