Lancashire Dog Wins Group At Crufts And Makes It Through To Live Channel 4 Final

09 March 2014    00:00

Beating thousands of other dogs, Ricky (Ch/Am Ch Afterglow Maverick Sabre), a Standard Poodle from Preston, Lancashire has qualified for the final of Crufts after winning Best in Group for the Utility group today.

Ricky, aged two, will now compete for the prestigious title of Best in Show on Sunday against just six other dogs at the world's greatest dog show, Crufts at the NEC in Birmingham. More than 21,000 dogs are competing over the four days of the show for the chance to win the most celebrated title in the world of dogs.

Ricky was bred by Mike Gadsby and Jason Lynn, and was handled by Jason, who co-owns Ricky with John and Sandra Stone.

Ricky will be returning to the NEC Arena for the highly anticipated Crufts 2014 final. Only seven dogs make it all the way through to the final, which will be watched by thousands in the arena and millions more worldwide as it will be televised live on Channel 4 and streamed on the official Crufts YouTube Channel -

Proud breeder, Mike said: "I'm absolutely hysterical at winning the Utility group at Crufts this year. Ricky is an absolutely amazing dog. Some dogs are prima donnas but this is not the case with Ricky. He really is a regular dog that we can take to the park and let off the lead. It's Ricky's last show in the UK and we're elated. He's not shown since December last year and he's had a good rest and came to Crufts refreshed."

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: "Reaching the Best in Show final at Crufts is a great achievement for any dog. I'm sure that all of Lancashire will be tuning in to Channel 4 and rooting for them to win on Sunday evening."
