Dog and cat fur

The Kennel Club is of the view that the import, export, sale and production of dog and cat fur should be banned. There is no justification for this trade to continue, particularly since there is strong evidence that much of the practice surrounding the trade involves barbaric cruelty to the animals involved.

The Kennel Club welcomes the European Commission's ban on the production, marketing, import and export of dog and cat fur throughout Europe.

The UK has not found any evidence of the dog and cat fur trade within its borders but the Kennel Club is continuing to monitor the situation. Even with an EU ban in place, the trade still exists in countries around the world so the Kennel Club will continue to apply pressure on the Chinese authorities to end their trade in dog and cat fur, as this is a major root of the problem.
