The Young Kennel Club (YKC) has re-launched its Artist of the Year competition and has invited talented artists amongst its members to design the front cover for the brand new YKC Crufts catalogue.
YKC members are being encouraged to get creative and submit their design which features their interpretation of the YKC, Crufts and their love of dogs.
The new YKC Crufts catalogue will showcase all members who are competing in the YKC ring at Crufts 2017, and will be available at the show for a small fee. Alongside having their artwork featured on the cover of the catalogue, the overall winner will receive £75, art supplies and a year’s free YKC membership. 2nd place is £50 and art supplies and 3rdplace is £30 plus art supplies. The winner will also have their artwork displayed at the YKC stand at the show, which will be seen by thousands of people.
YKC Chairman, Gerald King, said: “We’re very excited to be able to offer members the chance to design the front cover of our brand new YKC Crufts catalogue. Our members are talented in many different ways so this is a great opportunity for them to showcase their creativity outside of the ring. This competition is a fantastic way for members to show off their artistic skills whilst celebrating their love of dogs, and we’re looking forward to seeing the wide variety of artwork. Good luck to all who enter.”
This year’s judging panel will be looking for a striking cover design that is well executed, has an imaginative concept and clearly places the cover within the brief of the Young Kennel Club, Crufts and their love of dogs.
Last year’s YKC Artist of the Year overall and 6-11 years category winner was 9 year-old Jessica Smith from Worksop, who won over the judge with her picture of her dogs frolicking in a meadow as the sun sets.
YKC members have until Friday 25th November to submit their artwork. Entries need to be A4 in size and a range of materials, including drawing (e.g. pencil, pen) painting and printmaking. The competition is open to all members aged 6-24 years.
Entrants should send their artwork to Young Kennel Club, The Kennel Club, Clarges Street, Piccadilly, London, W1J 8AB. All artwork must include a full name, address and age, telephone number and email address on the back. You must also describe why you chose your design. You do not need to add titles or wording to your design. All artwork will be returned after Crufts 2017.
