Restrictions on assistance dogs

05 April 2016    11:00

We are aware of some local authorities using 'dog grids' at the entrances to children's play areas. These are metal grids inserted into the ground, which have been designed to stop dogs passing over them. These also have the effect of impairing assistance dogs from entering children's play areas, which places unreasonable barriers on parents, children or their carers, who have assistance dogs from entering the area. KC Dog respects the right for local authorities to ban dogs from play areas however this should be done in a manner which leaves these areas accessible to assistance dogs. If you have seen 'dog grids' in your area then please contact us, by emailing as we would like to get a better picture of their use around the UK.
