The House of Commons Environment Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA)
Select Committee conducted an enquiry into pet welfare which closed
in March. This inquiry provided an opportunity to raise concerns on
all aspects of pet welfare, including dogs. Based on the
submissions it receives, the committee will produce a report with
recommendations to Government. Our response covered some of the key
areas that we campaign on, we of course emphasised the importance
of being able to exercise your dog off lead and how this has been
restricted by PSPOs.
We called for further efforts to improve legislation on dog
breeding and sale to try and ensure that all puppies bought are
happy and healthy. Alongside this we also explained why we believe
electric shock collars need to be banned. We will keep you updated
on the progress of this inquiry, especially any potential impact on
access for dog walkers.
