YKC National Training Camp
YKC National Training Camp is a residential training week for members and their dogs (YKC members must be aged 8-15 years). It is a fun packed week which is held in the summer each year. It provides a fantastic opportunity for members to develop their discipline skills and a great way to make new friends.
Members and their families can stay on site in caravans or tents or visit the venue each day. Parents and/or Guardians MUST remain on site with the member at all times. Siblings are allowed to attend the camp along with the member although they cannot take part in the training programme. Each member must bring a dog of their own in order to participate in the programme. As well as a packed daily programme there will also be social activities in the evening to get to know your new canine enthusiasts.
What are the aims of camp?
To provide members with a holiday training week that offers a learning and development experience incorporating most canine disciplines, encouraging and supporting interaction between members.
What training is on offer?
Each member has a training programme specifically devised to tailor his or her individual needs prior to arrival. It doesn’t matter if you are a complete beginner or a regular competitor; there is something for everybody.
Previous training has been offered in:
- Agility
- Obedience
- Handling
- Flyball
- Good Citizen Dog Scheme
- Heelwork to Music
- Gundogs
- Grooming
What happens in the evening?
The social programme is as much part of camp as dogs and training. It is unique in the fact that it provides members with a chance to socialise with their “doggie friends”. Previous activities have included quiz night, line dancing, camp challenges and much more.
Do members get to compete?
Members have the opportunity to put into practice what they have learnt throughout the week on competition day. Each discipline is covered and members are not obliged to enter anything they do not want to. However more often is the case that classes are full to the brim!
Where do members stay?
Members must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Pitches are provided for either caravans or tents.
What do the parents do whilst at camp?
There are tons of opportunities to become involved and help out if you want to get involved, such as helping run social groups, assisting with costume making, helping on competition day and much more. On applying to camp all parents/guardians will be sent a form asking if they wish to help in any way and providing options. However, most parents take the opportunity to have a well-earned break before the summer holidays!
How much does it cost?
Costs will be available on the application form.
