Say “Thank you” to Dogs
Caring, kind and compassionate. A dog’s love is unconditional, and the comfort and joy they bring to people’s lives – beyond measure.
We depend on them for their loyalty and companionship, but let’s not forget, they depend on us, too.
One charity looks after the health and welfare of all dogs.
At the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, we’re dedicated to helping dogs in every way we can: from funding research into genetic diseases and supporting welfare groups, to training for assistance dogs, all of which give dogs healthier and happier lives.
The Charitable Trust was established in 1987. It has already donated over £3 million to a range of organisations and charities, our work and achievements are made possible only by the donations we receive from kind people, like yourself, who share our love and passion for dogs.
There are many ways to donate to the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, yet there’s one way to ensure your love and passion for dogs live on beyond your lifetime. A modest donation in your Will in the form of a Legacy, can help the Trust continue its important work.
Make a real difference to a dog’s future
For many of us, dogs are a reservoir of love and comfort throughout our lives. We depend on them for loyalty and companionship, but they depend on us too. With such a unique and life-enhancing bond between our dogs and us, we are fortunate to have many organisations within the UK, which work to maintain the welfare of animals and help pay back our debt to our canine friends.
Here’s how your gift could help make a difference for dogs in the future:
£50 could help provide food and shelter for rescued dogs at one of the shelters the Kennel Club Charitable Trust supports, eg Assisi Animal Sanctuary.
£100 could help to sponsor a support dog, eg Dogs for the Disabled.
£500 could help to fund the equipment needed for canine treatment at an animal teaching hospital, eg The Royal Veterinary College’s Queen Mother Animal Hospital.
£1,000 could help identify the genes involved in hereditary canine diseases, eg The Animal Health Trust.
Remembering the Kennel Club Charitable Trust with a Legacy, a simple donation in your Will, is one of the best ways of ensuring that you continue to make a difference for dogs in the future.
Making a Will is far less complicated and expensive than you might think, and it is perhaps one of the most important things you’ll ever do.
It is the only way to be sure that your family, friends, favourite charities and others are provided for as you wish after your death. If you should die without a Will the law decides how your money and possessions are divided, so it is important that you make one.
Making a Will
A properly drawn up Will is the only way to ensure that your estate, which you have worked hard for all your life, is given to those you want to benefit from it. Without a Will there is uncertainty; many people believe that everything they own is automatically left to their spouse or next of kin. This unfortunately is not always the case and unless you receive proper legal advice your wishes may not be effective following your death.
Once you have made your Will, it must be kept in a safe place, or let your Solicitor keep the original and just keep a copy for yourself. Do let your Executors know where your Will is kept. Your Will can be much more than a document which sorts out your legal affairs, it can make all the difference to the support the Kennel Club Charitable Trust is able to provide.
If you have already included us in your Will, we would very much appreciate hearing of this so that we can say “thank you”. If, after reading this leaflet you feel that you would like to unite behind us in our work – and have a firm intention of leaving us a Legacy, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Leaving a Legacy
At the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, we’re committed to making a difference for dogs in the future. A modest donation in your Will in the form of a Legacy, can help the Trust continue its important work.
There are several ways to leave a Legacy in your Will:
- Residual donation – leaving a percentage of the residue of your estate after all dependants have been provided for. This type of donation is the most beneficial to the charity.
- Pecuniary donation – by leaving a specific sum of money, which can be index-linked to preserve its value.
- Specific donation – by deciding to leave part or all of your estate to the Kennel Club Charitable Trust.
Where do I start?
A Solicitor will be able to advise you on legal aspects, the different ways in which you can make sure all your beneficiaries are provided for – including leaving a donation to a charity.
If you don’t already have a Solicitor, ask a friend or ring the Citizens' Advice Bureau for a recommendation.
Updating an existing Will
The majority of minor changes can be covered by adding a codicil (an addition or alteration to a Will). A Legacy gift to a charity can be added to an existing Will by codicil. The codicil must be signed and witnessed and should be kept with the Will.
Your Solicitor will need to know the following details:
Charity name: The Kennel Club Charitable Trust
Address: 1-5 Clarges Street, London W1J 8AB
Registered Charity No: 327802
