Bloodhound Working Permits

Since the Pet Passport Scheme was introduced there are now more options for competitors to travel with their hounds and for European hounds to compete in the United Kingdom.  The General Committee has therefore approved regulation amendments to allow hounds resident overseas to be issued with a restricted permit in their country of residence allowing them to compete in the UK.  To qualify for a permit, each hound will need to be assessed by an overseas judge who has judged for the Association of Bloodhound Breeders, or the Bloodhound Club, and only in a country which holds Bloodhound Trials under similar Regulations to the Kennel Club.   A stock test will still need to be undertaken in the UK.  The following Regulation amendments all become effective on 1 January 2007:

Regulation I(D)10.a.

FROM

Working Permits

Bloodhounds may only be hunted free if they hold both sections of a Working Permit issued by the Association of Bloodhound Breeders or the Bloodhound Club to certify that they are steady with farm stock.  Hounds entered on a Restricted Permit must be hunted on a leash.  To qualify for entry in the Senior Stake, hounds must hold both sections of the Working Permit.

TO:

Working Permits

To compete at Kennel Club Licensed Trials a hound, resident in the UK, must hold an Association of Bloodhound Breeders or Bloodhound Club Working Permit.  Hounds from countries nominated below must hold a Working Permit issued by their Bloodhound club and can compete in the UK stake equivalent to their qualification.

(Nominated countries are: Belgium, Denmark, Holland and Sweden).

Europe           Equivalent UK Class

Novice            Novice

Junior             Junior

Senior             Intermediate

(amendment underlined)

Regulation I(D)10.b.

Stock Test

Bloodhounds entered on a restricted permit must be hunted on a leash; they may only be hunted free if they hold part two of a Working Permit issued by the Association of Bloodhound Breeders or the Bloodhound Club to certify they are steady with farm stock.  Hounds are required to have passed a stock test in the UK before being hunted off leash and are ineligible to compete in a Senior Stake until successfully stock tested.

(Insert new sub-paragraph)

To clarify the criteria for the Novice stake, in relation to the previous amendment in relation to the stock test, the following amendment has also been approved:

Regulation I(D)11.a

FROM:

The line shall be approximately 1.6km (one mile) long and not less than half an hour cold.  For Bloodhounds holding an Association of Bloodhound Breeders or Bloodhound Club Working Permit at the close of entries.  No hound that has won Novice or gained 1st or 2nd place in Junior, Intermediate or Senior Stake may enter.

(delete underlined).

To reiterate that Bloodhounds cannot be entered in the Senior Stake until they have passed a stock test in the UK, the following Regulation has been amended:

Regulation I(D)11.d.

FROM:

The line shall be approximately 4.8km (3 miles) long and not less than two hours cold.  For Bloodhounds that have won an Intermediate Stake at close of entries.
