3) When did the Show Certificate of Merit come into effect?
The Show Certificate of Merit came into affect on the 1st January 2003. Therefore, only points won after this date can count towards this award.
4) When did the Junior Warrant come into effect?
The Junior Warrant came into effect from the 1st October 1997, however the point system has changed somewhat since then. There was a Junior Warrant scheme in place before the 1st October 1997, however dogs that won the title JW under this scheme did not obtain a Stud Book number and sadly we have no records of such awards as they pre-dated our computer systems.
5) I want to apply for the Junior Warrant/Show Certificate of Merit but I have not kept a record of my show wins. Can you help me?
Unfortunately, we only computerise the Stud Book qualifying awards i.e. Limit and Open classes (depending on breed) at Championship Shows where CCs are on offer. Therefore, you must keep your own record of awards that your dog wins. If you do happen to lose your records you can always contact the show secretaries, who may be able to assist you by looking at their catalogues.
6) How long will it take to receive my Junior Warrant/Show Certificate of Merit certificate?
It can take anything from between 1 – 6 weeks from the date the office receives the application. During the show season we have huge numbers of catalogues that we have to process in show date order which might mean that you have to wait longer than in the quieter winter months.
7) If my dog wins a class that qualifies me for a Studbook number what do I do?
If your dog wins a qualifying class, then a Studbook Certificate is automatically generated after we have put the awards on, so you do not need to do anything but wait for your certificate to arrive in the post.
8) How long will it take for my Stud Book/Challenge Certificate to come through?
It can take anything from between 2 – 6 weeks from the date of the show depending on the time of year an the volume of catalogues and awards we are processing.
9) Do I receive a certificate if my dog wins a Reserve Challenge Certificate?
Sorry - no. We only issue Challenge Certificates, Stud Book numbers and Champion certificates.
10) Can I have a list of my dogs awards sent to me?
Yes you can. However, at the moment we only computerise the Stud Book qualifying awards so therefore we can only send you a list of awards providing your dog has a Stud Book number. If you would like a list of your dog’s awards then please send a cheque for £3.00 (as at Aug 2006) to the Awards Department giving your dog’s registered name and number.
11) How is a dog made into a Champion?
A dog is awarded the title Champion if it has won 3 Challenge Certificates at championship shows where CCs were on offer, under 3 different judges and one of the Challenge Certificates was awarded when the dog was more then 12 months of age. You will automatically be sent a Champion certificate, and this can take between 2 – 6 weeks from the date of the show.
12) I do not know what Stud Book Band my dog is in?
You can view or download and print the Stud Book Bands, or contact the Awards Department via email or telephone. Please note the Stud Book bands may change and therefore it is advisable to enquire if your breed has changed bands in January. These bands are published in the January Kennel Gazette.
13) Can I obtain a list of CC winners and RCC winners in a particular breed?
Yes you can. Please contact the Awards Department for this and we will send it out free of charge.
14) How do I add a foreign title to my dog’s record?
To add a foreign title you need to send photocopies of the certificates to the Awards Department who will add the title to your dog’s record and then confirm the addition in writing. Please note that we will only recognise a foreign title from a country with which the Kennel Club has a reciprocal agreement.
15) How long does it take to issue an Agility Warrant?
Please contact the Awards Department for an Agility Warrant book. If you already have a book, and have completed it, then please send to the Awards Department, ensuring that you have obtained 200 points and we will return your book along with your Agility Warrant certificate within 2 – 3 days working days.
16) How long does it take to issue an Obedience Warrant?
This usually takes 2 – 6 working days.
