Regulations for the Young Kennel Club
As at 1st July 2005
The Young Kennel Club (YKC) has the following aims;
a. To educate young people in the care and training of dogs.
b. To develop courtesy, sportsmanship and self-discipline.
c. To encourage a sense of responsibility in dog ownership.
d. To enable young people to enjoy participation in and management of all activities connected with dogs.
e. To promote activities which fulfil the foregoing aims.
2. Membership will be open to young people between the ages of 6 to 24 by completing the application form and on payment of the membership subscription of £10.00 (inc VAT).
3. The annual subscription of £10.00 will become due on 1st January each year.
4. Membership of the Young Kennel Club will terminate on the member’s 25th birthday or on non-payment of the annual subscription. Any member who has not paid his/her subscription within 3 months of the due date will be removed from the list of members.
5. Associateship of the Kennel Club may be applied for on reaching the age of 18. An annual fee will not apply in the first year of Associateship provided, upon application, the member agrees to renew his/her Associateship annually thereafter by Direct Debit. The annual payment in the following years of Associateship, up to age 25, will be 50% of the current annual fee provided this is paid by Direct Debit. The Kennel Club Regulations for Associateship will apply to all applicants.
6. The activities of the YKC will be conducted on a national basis with the assistance of Kennel Club Registered and Listed Status clubs.
7. The YKC will be managed by a management team reporting to the General Committee. The General Committee will appoint a Chairman and Vice Chairman to the management team annually:
a. The management team will be administered by the Events, Marketing and Business Development Division.
b. The composition of the management team will generally be;
(1) YKC Chairman (GC Member)
(2) YKC Vice Chairman (GC Member)
(3) YKC Manager
(4) YKC Events Co-ordinator
(5) YKC Administrator
(6) Consultants as and when appropriate
(7) 2 senior members of the YKC (aged 18-24). These will be elected by postal ballot of the YKC membership for a maximum period of 2 years and will demit office on reaching the age of 25. (All senior members will be entitled to put their names forward for election at which time a CV will be required for publication to the membership).
c. The role of the management team will be;
(1) To develop the structure.
(2) To review strategy and policy.
(3) To review existing opportunities within the current structure and how they will be integrated and/or developed within the YKC.
8. The General Committee shall appoint a President of the Young Kennel Club as appropriate.
9. From time to time Liaison Officers to represent Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England will be appointed to advise the Young Kennel Club Chairman on the progress and effectiveness of the Young Kennel Club.
10. Any member whose behaviour or other actions are judged to bring discredit upon the Young Kennel Club may, on the authority of the General Committee, have their membership terminated.
11. The General Committee of the Kennel Club will be the final authority in all matters.
Footnote:
For YKC Stakes Classes only, members’ dogs must be registered with the Kennel Club either;
a. Solely or jointly in the member’s name or
b. In the name of a member of the family and under these circumstances the dog must be resident at the YKC member’s address.
In exceptional circumstances this rule may be waived on application to the YKC Administrator at the Kennel Club.
