Health and Safety Concerns

Border CollieThe Kennel Club has a keen interest in the health and safety of all dogs and there are several ways in which it is seeking to improve both the identification and control of inherited conditions. This area of the website provides a wide range of information to aid a greater understanding of this important issue.

A message from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency
In 2011 the Coastguard is asking dog walkers to stay safe and keep your dog on a lead on cliffs. If your dog goes over a cliff do not attempt a self rescue.  Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

There are so many exciting distractions for dogs on a coastal walk that even the most docile doggie has been known to go over cliff edges and to prevent owners risking their lives, our Coastguard Cliff Rescue Teams get called out.  Coastguards dealt with 227 coastal incidents involving dogs in 2010.  Many dogs die from their injuries and owners have also lost their lives trying to rescue their pets at the coast.
