Canine Games dog show in East London this weekend
East London will set tails wagging this weekend as man’s best friend takes over Shoreditch, E2, on Saturday (7th July) for a fantastically fun and unique day dedicated to dogs, and raising money for many of the UK’s dog charities.
The Kennel Club is joining other leading animal welfare organisations at the Canine Games, billed as ‘London’s first dog festival’, to soak up the dog-centric atmosphere, chatting to members of the public and giving out advice and fabulous freebies to help dog owners.
The event will be buzzing with dogs, both purebred and crossbreeds, taking part in the myriad of exciting competitions and activities – from the patriotic ‘Flying the Flag’ ceremony and a ‘Fastest Wag Per Minute’ wag-off to an impressive hotdog eating contest for owners. Visitors will get the chance to have a professional pet portrait done, knit their own dog, and chat to rescue organisations and the Kennel Club about buying or rescuing a dog – making the festival perfect for anyone interested in becoming a dog owner.
As the summer months approach and warm weather and long days kick in, dog walkers will be out en masse to make the most of the sunshine and open spaces around Shoreditch, and the Kennel Club is doing its part in helping to promote responsible dog ownership in the area.
The organisation, the UK’s largest dedicated to the health and welfare of dogs, is offering a helping hand at the Canine Games for visitors that want to know about:
- the importance of dog ID such as microchipping and dog tags
- cleaning up after your dog
- the dangers of leaving dogs in cars
- the importance of training your dog
- exercising of dogs and access for dog walkers
Caroline Kisko, Secretary of the Kennel Club, said: “The Canine Games is a brilliant excuse for anyone in London, and even further afield, to spend a fun day out doing something different with their four-legged friends.
“The event is one of a kind and will undoubtedly appeal to anyone who loves dogs - offering lots of doggy entertainment and information for the whole family, this is definitely one not to be missed!”
The event runs from 12pm – 6pm at Haggerston Park, Shoreditch, E2 8QH. For more information, or to register a dog to take part, visit http://thecaninegames.co.uk/.

The Kennel Club is the largest organisation in the UK devoted to dog health, welfare and training. Its objective is to ensure that dogs live healthy, happy lives with responsible owners.
It runs the country’s largest registration database for both pedigree and crossbreed dogs and the Petlog database, which is the UK’s largest reunification service for microchipped animals. The Kennel Club Assured Breeder Scheme is the only scheme in the UK that monitors and sets standards for breeders, in order to protect the welfare of puppies and breeding bitches. It also runs the UK’s largest dog training programme, the Good Citizen Dog Training Scheme and licenses shows and clubs across a wide range of activities, which help dog owners to bond and enjoy life with their dogs. The Kennel Club runs the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts, and the Discover Dogs event at Earls Court, London, which is a fun family day out that educates people about how to buy responsibly and care for their dog.
The Kennel Club invests in welfare campaigns, dog training and education programmes and the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, which supports research into dog diseases and dog welfare charities, including Kennel Club Breed Rescue organisations that re-home dogs throughout the UK. The Kennel Club jointly runs health screening schemes with the British Veterinary Association and through the Charitable Trust, funds the Kennel Club Genetics Centre at the Animal Health Trust, which is at the forefront of pioneering research into dog health.
