Northampton woman to the rescue of the Miniature Poodle

Northampton woman Beth Dowle has been rescuing Miniature Poodles for 13 years and has had hundreds come through her care. In March, Beth will be heading to the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts to tell people about Miniature Poodle Club Rescue & Rehoming Scheme.

Beth, who lives in Northampton, has been involved with Miniature Poodles since 1975 and has been on the committee of the Miniature Poodle Club since 1981.

When her husband was taken ill 13 years ago, Beth was often at home, and it was then that she was approached by the breed club secretary to coordinate Miniature Poodle rescue. Since then, Beth has seen hundreds of Poodles rehomed, and at her busiest she helped 42 dogs in one year alone.

The Miniature Poodle is actually a medium sized dog, with an elegant, friendly and high-spirited demeanour, and last year, just under 1,000 Miniature Poodle puppies were registered with the Kennel Club. Like other breeds the Miniature Poodle sadly sees some neglectful and abusive owners, but fortunately breed enthusiasts have dedicated their time and resources to help those in need.

Beth said: “In 13 years, I have rehomed hundreds of dogs, travelling the length and breadth of the UK.  Every year we run a reunion of rehomed dogs and it is lovely to see them with their new owners, enjoying life to the full in loving homes and doing well.  People come from all over the UK to this event.

“At Crufts, we will be on the Kennel Club Breed Rescue Stand, making people aware that they don't have to get a puppy when they want a pedigree dog.”

Crufts takes place from 8th-11th March and different dog breeds will be joining the Kennel Club Breed Rescue stand each day. The Miniature Poodle Club Rescue & Rehoming Scheme will be on the stand on Thursday March 8th along with the Northern & Midland Bichon Frise Club Rescue.
